A step back in time on the “Fun Ship” the SS AMERICAN in the Ordway’s production of Anything Goes!

A step back in time on the “Fun Ship” the SS AMERICAN in the Ordway’s production of Anything Goes!
While today cruising in a multi-billion dollar industry, there was a time when leisure cruising was strictly for the rich and famous.
Anything Goes!  was set aboard a luxury cruise ship sailing from New York to England in the 1930’s. It pokes fun at the characters of the time.  From the lead Reno Sweeney, a burlesque singer/dancer (played by the incredible Rachel York), to Gangster Moonface Martin (played by Jeff Brooks) and all of the wealthy socialites in between Elisha Whitney (Dennis Kelley), Hope Harcourt (Alex Finke) Evangeline Whitney (Sandra Shipley), the actors all did a fantastic job of portraying the over the top characters of the time.
While the story was a cute love “hexagon” with three couples getting married in the end, what really impressed me in this show was the big production numbers.  The big songs and the intricate tap dancing brought the audience to their feet on more than one occasion!
The only problem with this production is that I can’t get the soundtrack out of my head J! I go from Anything Goes, to Blow Gabriel Blow, to Friendship and back again.
The show is at the Ordway through Sunday.  If you want to see a feel good show that will leave a few songs in your head Anything Goes! is the show to see!
